The first person to investigate narrative structures systematically was Vladimir Propp who found recurring patterns in Russian folk tales. I would like to mention the fantastic work of Joseph Campbell the discoverer of the hero's journey. Another pattern is the fight of an inhomogeneous and egalitarian group, or motley crew against a highly homogeneous and hierarchical group. The best example is perhaps Star Wars. Another good example is Ready Player One. This pattern reflects real rebellions and revolutions. It also reflects what I have called hunter-gatherer vs farmer organisation.
