Why are Scandinavian people so tall?

If people assume that the height of Scandinavian people is primarily influenced by geography, they are mistaken. There is little about cold climates that should make people tall, on the contrary, the Inuit are rather short. Scandinavian height comes primarily from Yamnaya or Steppe pastoralists genes.

In fact, the tallest people in the world are supposed to be the Dinka, an African pastoralist people. Height is very likely at least partially an adaptation to the mode of subsistence. Pastoralism requires a lot of mobility (nomadism) and speed (catching animals) and taller individuals should have an evolutionary advantage.

The Nazis considered the “Aryan people” with their height and blue eyes as superior. Of course, that was dangerous hogwash and they got almost nothing right, except for the height. If blue eyes are common, they were probably mostly inherited through the maternal line, as blue eyes, according to the research, are inherited from European hunter-gatherers. Blue eyes are in fact extremely rare in Asia, and that is true for areas where the historic Aryans settled (Iran, India). Genetic research shows that single pastoralist males often left thousands of offspring, from which we can conclude that the Steppe pastoralists were anything but gentlemen when they invaded northern Europe.

We are all a mix of four evolutionary temperaments based on the mode of subsistence: hunting, gathering, farming and herding. In ancient times people could visually see those differences more easily than we can nowadays (AI can detect personality traits based on facial features, for example). The first models of temperament and personality arose in ancient medicine: Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Galen, as well as Islamic theories (Avicenna).  All those people considered themselves physicians and not psychologists.
